UPHS – Bell spotlight: Kate Kenney

What is your title with us?

Speech-Language Pathologist

What drew you to Bell?

The  first place I worked right out of college was  a small community hospital in Tecumseh, MI; UPHS-Bell reminds me of that “home town” hospital experience with compassionate employees who are committed to helping their neighbors, family, friends and colleagues.

People would be surprised if they knew:

Prior to becoming a speech therapist I was pursing a degree in vocal performance.

Tell us about your family.

My husband Kevin Salmela and I have been married 15 years and we have one “furry kid”, an English Setter named Cooper.

Name something on your bucket list.

Attending the Kentucky Derby, and getting all dressed up with a big beautiful hat.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Supporting my patients and their families as they navigate the medical aspect of their communicative, cognitive or swallowing condition.

Do you have a favorite quote?

This was a tough one to answer; I collect favorite quotes. Here is one I often return to: “Let go or be dragged.”  – American Proverb
