UPHS – Bell Employee Spotlight: Emily Paavola

What is your title with UPHS-Bell?

Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department.

What drew you to Bell?

Ishpeming is a special place because as I was growing up in the Copper Country, we visited our grandmother in Ishpeming. Many family members are here and some have worked for Bell also.

People would be surprised if they knew:

I’m trained in the therapy Myofascial Release. It’s a holistic hands-on therapy treating the whole body.

Tell us about your family.

My husband Dan and I have four girls, Gwen, Lilly, Evelyn, and Etta. We have four parakeets and a Shih Tzu.  The girls have enjoyed participating in ski jumping and softball.

Name something on your bucket list.

Stay in a cabin in Alaska and enjoy the simple things.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Providing patients a calm safe space while in the Emergency Department.  Teaching patients about ways to care for themselves.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“The tactile surface of the skin is the interface between not only the body and our world but also the mind’s thought process and our physical existence.”
